The Abia State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating online that its officers were involved in a shooting incident that resulted in the death of a civilian around the Alaoji Flyover area in Aba.
In a statement released by ASP Maureen Chinaka, spokesperson for the Abia State Police Command, the police clarified that their officers were not involved in the incident.
According to the statement, a team of police officers from the Quick Intervention Unit were returning to Umuahia from an official assignment when they heard sporadic gunfire near the Alaoji Flyover area.
They disembarked and took cover, and later found members of the Abia State Harmonised Task Force, Operation Crush, and the military at the scene.
The police confirmed that a civilian had died in the incident, but denied any involvement of their personnel.
The statement urged the public to disregard misinformation about the incident, which had been circulating on social media.
The police are still investigating the identities of those responsible for the shooting and their motives.
