Kylian Mbappe made his highly anticipated La Liga debut for Real Madrid on Sunday, but the defending champions were held to a 1-1 draw by Mallorca.

Mbappe, who scored on his debut for the club in Wednesday’s 2-0 Uefa Super Cup win over Atalanta, failed to find the back of the net in domestic football. However, he showed his skill and speed throughout the game, having a few close chances.

Rodrygo opened the scoring for Madrid with a fine curling shot from Vinicius Jr’s backheel, but Vedat Muriqi equalized with a header from Dani Rodriguez’s cross.

Madrid defender Ferland Mendy was sent off deep into injury time for a lunge on Muriqi.

This was Mbappe’s first league game outside of France, having started his career with Monaco and spending six seasons with Paris St-Germain, where he became the club’s record goalscorer and six-time Ligue 1 Golden Boot winner.
