… Sets New Healthcare Funding Benchmark.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has approved over N300 million in grants for 389 resident doctors in the state’s civil service.

This funding, covering two consecutive years—2023 and 2024—ensures that each doctor receives between N800,000 and N900,000 annually.

The move marks a major milestone in healthcare funding as residency grants have only been paid twice in the last 16 years, with the last payment in 2018. With 215 doctors funded in 2023 and 174 in 2024, Governor Fubara’s administration is setting a new standard for medical training support in the state.

This initiative by His Excellency is aimed at empowering medical professionals, enhancing their skills, and ultimately improving the quality of healthcare for all Rivers residents as Gov. Fubara has always emphasized that his administration’s commitment to healthcare is unwavering, as shown by this unprecedented financial support.

According to the Hon. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh, this grant removes financial barriers for doctors, allowing them to focus on critical exams and research without worrying about costs. She highlighted that this investment will lead to better healthcare outcomes for the people of Rivers State and set a model for others to follow.
