Former Delta Lawmaker Joan Onyemaechi Regains Freedom

The Delta State Police Command has announced the release of former member of the House of Representatives, Joan Onyemaechi, from the kidnappers’ den.

According to the Command’s spokesman, Bright Edafe, Onyemaechi was released on Friday night.

Onyemaechi, a former member of the Delta State House of Assembly and immediate past Commissioner for Technical Education, was abducted by gunmen on July 30 from her church premises along the DBS Road in Asaba, the state capital.

Tragically, a police aide and one other person lost their lives in the attack.

While the police have confirmed her release, they have not disclosed whether any ransom was paid to secure her freedom.

Edafe stated that details would be communicated later.

Onyemaechi’s abduction had sparked widespread concern, and her release brings relief to her family, friends, and the community.

The police are expected to provide further information on the circumstances surrounding her release and the ongoing investigation into the kidnapping.
