Sharing is caring

The Federal Government has declared all 256 custodial centers across Nigeria as “red zones” ahead of the planned nationwide protest on August 1, 2024.

The Controller General of Corrections, Hailey Nababa, issued a statement warning that these centers are critical national assets essential to public safety and national security.

The Nigerian Correctional Service has increased security measures in custodial centers nationwide, with the Ministry of Interior Joint Taskforce (MOIJTF) activated to provide extra security. The agency warned that tampering with or attacking these centers would lead to a breakdown of law and order and exacerbate national security concerns.

Other security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, police, and Nigeria Customs Services (NCS), have also cautioned against violence during the planned protest. The NCS has directed increased surveillance and vigilance at the country’s borders, while the Immigration Service has warned its officers to be extra vigilant.

The Federal Government has urged protesters to exercise their right to peaceful protest while warning against violent actions that could compromise national security.

The government has assured that adequate security arrangements are in place to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.
