Gunmen have abducted a former Delta state Commissioner for Technical Education, Joan Onyemaechi.

Onyemaechi was abducted on Tuesday at her church along DBS road, Asaba during church service.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident.

Two police officers attached to her were shot by the gunmen, killing one in the process while the other sustained injury and is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

But the police authorities, however, said they were on the trail of the gunmen.

Joan Onyemaechi represented the Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency at the House of Representatives in 2015.

She also served as a lawmaker for the Aniocha South at the Delta State House of Assembly from 2007 to 2015. She was appointed by the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, as the Commissioner for Technical Education before she later resigned earlier this year.
