Despite two court orders prohibiting the exercise, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has gone ahead with its ward congresses.
The party members collected materials at the PDP Secretariat in Port Harcourt and proceeded to their various wards to hold the congresses.
This move defies the court orders issued by Justice Charles Wali and Justice Sobere Biambo, which prohibited the party from holding ward, local government, and state congresses until the court hears and determines the suit before it.
However, a counter order from a Federal High Court in Abuja allowed the PDP to proceed with the activities, causing confusion and uncertainty.
The congresses aim to elect new officers to run the affairs of the PDP at the ward, local government, and state levels in Rivers State.
The defiance of court orders by the PDP in Rivers State raises concerns about the rule of law and the party’s commitment to democratic processes.
