The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged President Bola Tinubu to take a proactive step towards addressing the grievances of Nigerians by engaging in dialogue with the leaders of the planned nationwide protest.
With inflation soaring at 34.19% and prices of food and electricity skyrocketing, the NLC emphasizes the need for the President to listen to the concerns of the citizens and offer tangible solutions.
The NLC President, Joe Ajaero, criticized the government’s dismissive approach to the protest, describing it as “condescending” and “dismissive”.
He stressed that the suffering of Nigerians is real and deserves empathy, not hostility.
“The government’s approach should be ‘jaw-jaw’ not ‘war-war’ with Nigerians,” Ajaero said. “You can’t expect a child to remain silent after being smacked.”
The NLC’s call for dialogue comes as the country prepares for a nationwide protest against hardship and economic challenges.
The protest leaders have been using social media platforms to mobilize support, and the NLC believes that engaging with them is crucial to finding a solution to the crisis.
With Nigerians angry and frustrated, the government must take a more empathetic approach to address their concerns.”
