In its efforts to create access roads and improve agricultural marketing in the rural communities and in turn, paving the pathway to a brighter rural future, Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project, RAAMP Abia State has announced that about 130 kilometer roads would be under construction between the month of April and September, 2024.
Making this known when the members of Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE Umuahia branch led by the Chairman, Engr. Enyinnaya Romanus paid a courtesy visit to his office, the State Project Coordinator, Abia State RAAMP Engr. Chinemere Ogbonna, FNSE disclosed that the asphalt roads with reinforced concrete drainages would be spread across the three senatorial districts in the state.
He further disclosed that the pilot road is located in Nkwo-Elechi in Obingwa L.G.A
Abia South senatorial district and in Itungwa and Omoba in Abia Central senatorial district.
Engr. Ogbonna who also dropped the cheering news that the state RAAMP under his watch has in the last four months signed 11 contracts encapsulated in one, expressed happiness that the narrative has changed unlike what is obtainable in the previous administrations.
He disclosed that Governor Alex Otti understood the importance of durable roads and he is also supporting RAAMP with funds to do a long lasting road.
While promising that the NSE Umuahia branch would continue to remain the abattoir of RAAMP projects, he assured that they will give no room for shortcut in all they do, as transparency will remain RAAMP’s watchword.
Presenting an address earlier, the NSE Umuahia branch chairman, Engr. Enyinnaya Romanus, lauded the RAAMP project in the state, which he observed is aimed at improving the livelihood of rural dwellers.
The Umuahia branch NSE boss also observed that, “RAAMP project is aimed at encouraging and increasing productivity in agriculture production which is a more sustainable revenue source, through road rehabilitation and construction, creation of Agro logistic hub that aids processing of agricultural produce and improve on its value”.
He called for opportunities for NSE Umuahia branch members, who are contractors, consultants and technical service providers, to get involved in providing services to the Agency by means of encouraging local content and growing the capacity within the society and the state at large.
Engr. Enyinnaya assured that the branch is ready and available to partner with the State Project Coordinator and RAAMP in achieving its mandate for a greater Abia.
Speaking respectively also, former chairmen of the branch, Engr. Victor Ihediwa FNSE and Engr. Uzoma Ohia, expressed happiness that the Agency has finally been domesticated in the engineering family and also appreciated Gov. Otti for choosing a seasoned Engineer as RAAMP Abia State Project Coordinator.
