In a significant development, Governor Alex Otti recently conducted an inspection of the Alaoji Power Station, accompanied by Chief Emeka Offor, Chairman of the Chrome Group.
This impressive facility boasts a 1,074MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) capacity and is currently managed and maintained by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) as part of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP), an initiative of the Federal Government.
Excitingly, the power plant’s generation infrastructure will be further enhanced through the introduction of two General Electric (GE) Steam turbines, each with a capacity of 286MW, under the auspices of the Chrome Consortium.
This expansion is expected to fulfill the developmental objectives and energy requirements of areas in Abia State that are not covered by the existing Integrated Power Project (IPP), such as Geometric Power.
Governor Alex Otti expressed his government’s recognition of the immense potential and opportunities presented by this project. He acknowledged the current suboptimal generation capacity due to gas supply constraints but extended commendations to Chief Emeka Offor for his dedication to resolving these challenges and ensuring efficient power generation and gas procurement.
The Governor is confident that Umuahia and other local government areas (LGAs) will soon reap the benefits of this endeavor.
In further support of the project, Governor Alex Otti has instructed the Mayor of Ugwunagbo L.G.A., Comrade Nosike Ihesiaba, to collaborate with the Commissioner for Works to improve the accessibility of the site.
This action aims to address the poor condition of the road leading to the power station, ultimately expediting the transportation of materials and equipment.
The inspection of the Alaoji Power Station and the subsequent efforts to enhance its capacity highlight the government’s commitment to providing a reliable and sustainable energy supply to the people of Abia State.
