In its bid to expand the scope of the SkillUp Imo programme, the Imo State Government has established 16 digital- tech training centres across the state.
Immediate past Commissioner for Digital Economy and E- Government, Dr. Chimezie Amadi, disclosed this, yesterday, while fielding questions from an Owerri- based privately owned radio station.
According to him, 20,000 people have been trained on tech talent, while 40,000 are still undergoing training, encompassing 15 tech-knowledge areas.
He said: “I can tell you that we have successfully graduated 20,000 tech talents. 40,000 are undergoing training and will graduate soon. In the next few years, Imo State will become a digital hub in Nigeria. There are 15 knowledge areas to leverage on in the SkillUp Imo. We have 16 learning centres in the state. The trainee chooses the one that is closest to him.”
Amadi disclosed that there are four critical building blocks, which the state had been leveraging on, including talent, economy, social and environmental sustainability.
The information technology expert lauded the initiative of the United States (U.S.) government in establishing the American Corner in Lagos, physically unveiled by the U.S. Secretary of State, Anthony Blinklen.
He noted that other states should leverage the opportunity to grow and expose the population, especially the youths, to digital tech.
