AFCON: Cape Verde Records First Upset Beat Ghana 2-1

The ongoing Nations Cup recorded its first upset with Cape Verde recording a 2-1 win over football giants Ghana with a stoppage-time winner to go top of Group B.

The game was heading for a draw before Garry Rodrigues tapped into an empty net in the 92nd minute after a mix-up in the Black Stars defence for the historic win

Jamiro Monteiro had put the islanders Alexander Djiku equalise with a header before Rodrigues pounced to grab victory.

Cape Verde move two points clear in Group B after Egypt drew 2-2 with Mozambique earlier on Sunday in another surprise result

Ghana suffered a group stage exit at the 2021 finals, while Cape Verde reached the last 16 before losing to eventual champions Senegal.

On Thursday, Egypt and Ghana will lock horns in the second round of matches in Group B while Giant killers Cape Verde entertain Mozambique both games will be played at the famous Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium, Abidjan

The Africa Cup of Nations which kicked off on Saturday is being hosted in six stadiums across five cities in Ivory Coast

The cities are Abidjan, Yamoussoukro, Bouake, Korhogo and San Pedro.

The 24 teams have been broken down into six groups, with the top two from each group and four best-ranked third-placed teams qualifying for the knockouts.
