We Have Cleared Notorious ESN Hideout Aku, Okigwe LGA-Imo Police Commissioner, Alongside Other Security Commanders…Urges Public Cooperation For Lasting Peace

Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has announced the successful dismantling of a notorious hideout allegedly belonging to the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Aku, Okigwe Local Government Area. The operation, carried out by joint security forces, marked a significant step in the ongoing effort to combat criminal elements in the region.

Speaking during a visit on December 3, 2024, to assess the operation’s progress, CP Danjuma, accompanied by Brigadier General U.A. Lawal, Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade, the Commander of Naval Base Oguta, the Director of DSS, the Commissioner for Homeland Security, and the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Security Affairs, lauded the efforts of the joint forces. The operation included personnel from the Nigerian Armed Forces, Police, DSS, and NSCDC.

The joint forces successfully cleared the hideout reportedly used by the ESN commander, known as “Gentle,” and his group to launch violent attacks against civilians and security personnel. The operation has led to the arrest of key suspects and a marked improvement in security across the state.

During the visit, Brig. Gen. Joseph Ogbonna (Rtd.), SSA to the Governor on Security Affairs, urged displaced residents of Aku to return to their homes and cooperate with security agencies. He reassured them of the government’s commitment to ensuring their safety by providing the necessary logistics and support.

CP Danjuma and Brigadier General Lawal emphasized the critical role of public cooperation in maintaining the success of security operations. They urged residents to provide actionable intelligence to help sustain peace and security in the area.

The dismantling of the criminal stronghold underscores the resolve of Imo State’s security agencies to combat terrorism and restore stability. The presence of top security commanders during the operation signifies the seriousness with which the government is addressing these challenges.

The Imo State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property while urging citizens to actively support ongoing efforts to ensure lasting peace in the state.
