Senator Dr Tony Nwoye of the Labour Party (LP) was affirmed on Thursday as the duly elected Senator for Anambra North Senatorial District, by the court of appeal sitting in Lagos.

The three-member panel held that the appeals against the lawmakers lacked merit and unmeritorious.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had, on Feb. 25, declared Nwoye as the winner of the National Assembly election to represent the people of Anambra North.

Dissatisfied with the declaration, Chief Stella Oduah and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) challenged the election of Dr Tony Nwoye at the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Awka.

The Anambra State National and State’s Election Petition Tribunal dismissed the two petitions from Mrs Stella Oduah and PDP.

Not satisfied with the judgments of the tribunal, Chief Stella Oduah and PDP proceeded to the Court of Appeal in Lagos.

The Counsel to Dr Tony Nwoye and LP urged the court to dismiss the appeals for lack of merit.

Delivering their judgment, the Court of Appeal upheld the submissions of the learned senior counsel to the respondents that the two appeals lacked merit and dismissed same while affirming the election of Dr Tony Nwoye as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The development triggered wide jubilation across Anambra North Senatorial District, and beyond, especially amongst the youth who we’re seen singing: Up Dr Nwoye, up our Aluta Senator and so, on.
