Gov Charles Soludo of Anambra state has urged the Judges, Lawyers and officials of the Judiciary to save the arm of government from destruction.
Soludo who made this plea at the 88th birthday celebration and book launch of Justice Godwin Ude Ononiba in Awka last Saturday noted that it has become instructive that the members of the bench and Bar should do the needful in the dispensation of justice given the fact that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man.
“The judiciary is the last hope of the common man and yes it is and the judiciary has a very strong role to play in advancing the course of justice and we appeal to the judiciary that includes the Judges,Lawyers and officials of the Judiciary to save our system”.
“The politicians want to fix everything and fix anything but the judiciary has that role to save us because if the judiciary is not up and doing where lies the fate of our country? “he said.
The book reviewer and former Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka Prof Ilochi Okafor SAN noted that the book entitled Wisdom On The Bench is a reference point for lawyer and students of the faculty of Law.
Also speaking a retired Judge of the Supreme Court Justice Anthony Igu described Ononiba is a close friend and associate adding that his carrier in the Bench is a lesson for the younger generation to follow his foot steps.
Speaking on behalf of the Senior Advocates present at the occasion Chief Emeka Ngige SAN noted that Ononiba has made great contributions to the Nigeria’s Judicial System adding that he would for ever be remembered for the innovations and changes in the Old Anambra state Justice system.
