Yet-to-be-ascertained worth of property was reported destroyed in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, as Fire Service confirmed multiple fire outbreaks in the community within a space of one week.
According to a press statement issued by the Media and Publicity Unit of the State Fire Service, the latest fire outbreak occurred in the early hours of Monday, January 26, 2026, at No. 32 Orumba Street, Okpoko, following a distress call received by the Service.
The statement disclosed that upon receiving the alert, officers and men of the Fire Service were immediately mobilized to the scene, where they engaged the fire with promptness and professionalism.
The Fire Service noted that through timely intervention, coordinated firefighting efforts, and professional conduct, the inferno was successfully brought under control, thereby preventing it from spreading to adjoining buildings and causing further destruction.
According to the Fire Service, preliminary findings indicate that the fire outbreak was triggered by a power surge, which resulted in the destruction of several properties within the affected premises.
The Fire Service confirmed that no casualties were recorded during the incident, attributing the outcome to the swift response of its personnel.
The statement further emphasized that the successful containment of the fire highlights the Anambra State Government’s commitment, through the Fire Service, to the protection of lives and property across the state.
The Fire Service once again urged residents to promptly report fire emergencies to the nearest fire station to ensure quick response and effective containment of incidents.
Recall that Okpoko community was also hit by another heavy fire outbreak last Thursday, January 23, 2026, when a bush fire engulfed parts of the area.
Earlier announcing the incident in a separate press statement, the Anambra State Fire Service said it received a distress call at about 14: 28 hours concerning a reported fire outbreak at Golden Oil Workshop, Pokobros Avenue, Okpoko.
According to the statement, upon arrival at the scene, firefighters identified the incident as a bush fire and immediately commenced firefighting operations, successfully containing the blaze and preventing its spread to nearby properties and facilities.
The Fire Service disclosed that the operation was concluded at about 1731 hours the same day, adding that the cause of the bush fire remains unknown.
While commending its officers for their swift response, the Fire Service used the opportunity to advise members of the public to refrain from indiscriminate bush burning, especially during the dry season.
The Service further cautioned residents to properly extinguish fire after outdoor activities, avoid careless disposal of burning materials, and clear bushes around homes, workshops, and business premises to reduce fire risks.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Anambra State Fire Service called on residents to cooperate by observing basic fire safety measures and to report any sign of fire outbreak without delay.
