Police Refute Claims Of Apathy Towards Student Kidnappings In Imo, Announce Arrests

The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed accusations of negligence in response to the recent abductions of students in Imo State, citing significant progress in curbing criminal activities.

In a statement issued by Force Headquarters, and communicated by ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the Imo State Police Command highlighted its achievements, particularly in addressing the surge in kidnappings.

The statement confirmed the arrest of five suspects linked to kidnapping operations in the Obinze, Avu, and Ihiagwa areas. Those apprehended—identified as Umaru Usman, Tukur Yau, Musbau Sabo, Abdul Ibrahim, and Jubrin Idris—were captured on August 21, 2024, in Avu, Imo State. Additionally, the police successfully rescued one abducted victim.

The force also reported the capture of Nwauba Alex, a 25-year-old man from Ezza LGA, Ebonyi State. He was caught attempting an armed robbery near Aladinma Primary School, Owerri. During the arrest, officers confiscated a locally made firearm, two live rounds of ammunition, and torchlights.

The Nigeria Police reassured the public of its commitment to fighting serious crimes and improving security. Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD., NPM, reiterated the adoption of proactive and reactive measures to effectively address criminal activities.
