The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, paid a momentous thank-you visit to traditional rulers in Imo State at the Eze Imo Palace, Owerri, on Friday, December 6, 2024. Her visit came ahead of her conferment of an honorary doctorate degree by the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

During the event, Mrs. Tinubu expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, asserting that the nation’s glory is within reach. She urged Nigerians to remain committed to overcoming present challenges through hard work, unity, and resilience.

Reflecting on the significance of her visit, Mrs. Tinubu acknowledged the unwavering support of the Imo monarchs and people for her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, both before and after the 2023 elections. She said, “Remember that when I came here last year with the wife of the Vice President, we told you we would come back. Now, we are back to thank you. Nigeria will be better because God is with us, and this Christmas will be sweet.”

She lauded Governor Hope Uzodimma’s leadership, commending the development strides in Imo State, particularly the road infrastructure. Mrs. Tinubu also highlighted the importance of hard work and agriculture, urging Nigerians to instill these values in their children for national growth.

Governor Hope Uzodimma, in his address, showered praises on the First Lady, describing her as the most dedicated and compassionate First Lady he has encountered in over 40 years of political experience. He assured her of the genuine love and support of the Imo people for her and her husband, emphasizing that President Tinubu’s administration is working tirelessly to address the nation’s economic challenges.

The Governor further announced that Imo State had received trailer loads of rice to ensure affordability during the Yuletide season, with bags of rice to be sold at N40,000, underscoring federal government support for the state.

The Chairman of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers and South East Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Eze E.C. Okeke, also extended gratitude to the First Lady for fulfilling her promise to visit. He commended her thoughtfulness and congratulated her on the honorary degree from FUTO, reiterating the traditional rulers’ commitment to supporting her husband’s administration.

Accompanying the First Lady were key dignitaries, including the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima; the wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hajia Yusuf Abbas; the wife of the Governor of Imo State, Chief Barr. Chioma Uzodimma; and other prominent women leaders.

The event symbolized the unity and collaborative spirit between the federal and state governments, traditional institutions, and citizens, with a shared vision of a brighter future for Nigeria.
