The Traditional Ruler of Umueri Ancient Kingdom in Anambra East local government area of Anambra State, Igwe Bennett Emeka, has advised community heads in the state to mount eagle eyes on the heinous activities of some evil native doctors in the area before, during and after the yelutide celebrations to avoid further initiation of youths into blood sucking demons in a quest to make money quick.
The Revered Traditional Ruler handed down the advice in his palace at Otuocha, while playing a host to the Anambra State Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Awka, Mr. Edozie Ajaegbu and his team who paid him an advocacy visit in continuation of their on- going nationwide sensitization campaign on get rich quick syndrome, HIV/AIDS, security awareness, the new tax reform bills, human rights among other burning national issues in the country.
The Monarch, who noted that the evil activities of some of the native doctors had contributed immensely on the exponentially increase in the unabated ritual killings, commercial sex by young girls, ill-gotten wealth by their male counterparters, crimes and criminalities and above all the uncontrollable consumption of hard drugs by people, identified the issue of the get-rich-quick syndrome as one of the major problems of the country.
Blaming the parents, Igwe Emeka wondered how a reasonable parents should take joy in celebrating the wealth of their son or daughter who dropped out of school without knowing the source of the money, warning the Traditional Rulers and other organizational heads in the state to avoid presentation of prestigious awards or titles to some persons without well identified source of income or profession in the society.
“Presentation of awards to criminals with ill-gotten wealth will continue to encourage crimes in the society”, he said.
While reminding people that HIV/AIDS is real, Igwe Emeka admonished them, especially youths to abstain totally from premarital and unprotected sex, asking parents to rise up to the challenges by condemning in a very strong term the attitudes of their children who indulge in killing the young girls or other heinous crimes in order to make quick money.
The Okebe II, who decried the attitudes of some young girls and mothers who have turned themselves into ezenwanyi, with a view to making ends meet, called on the leadership of NOA in Anambra State and Nigeria in general to do more on their sensitization campaign against illicit drugs in the country with a view to dissuading youths from indulging in crimes to the detriment of their immediate families and the entire society.
Earlier, the NOA State Director, Mr. Ajaegbu, said that the Agency had been busy reaching out to the Traditional Rulers, Presidents-General, Schools and Churches in the state, preaching to them on the need to support the sensitization campaign against get rich quick syndrome, HIV/AIDS and other burning issues of the present government at the center in the country.
The NOA boss, who spoke through the Community Orientation and Mobilization Officer of the Agency in Anambra East local government area, Mrs Chinwe Udeagha, maintained that they had carried out road show programme on 18th of December this year in area as part of their efforts to ensure that the information on the five topical programmes of federal government trickled down to very length and breathe of the local government area.
He disclosed that on 29th of this month, that they would be attending a programme at Nsugbe community, organized by the youths of the town in order to educate people more on the issues of the new tax reform bills of the federal government, human rights day, HIV/AIDS, security awareness and the inherent dangers of the get-rich-quick syndrome among others by Nigerians youths.
He enjoined the Traditional Rulers, Presidents-General, School and Church heads in the state to key into the campaign with a view to stemming the dreaded monsters bedeviling the country over the years.
