Manchester United is on the verge of securing the signatures of Bayern Munich pair Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui in a deal worth over £50m.
The Red Devils have agreed to pay £38.6m plus £4.3m in add-ons for De Ligt, the 24-year-old center-back who captained Erik ten Hag’s Ajax side to the Champions League semi-final in 2019.
In addition, United will pay £12.9m for 26-year-old Morocco defender Mazraoui, who can play at right-back.
The signings are a major boost for ten Hag, who has identified central defense and right-back as key areas to strengthen in his squad.
De Ligt, who has played for Juventus and Bayern Munich, brings a wealth of experience to Old Trafford, having won titles in Italy and Germany.
Mazraoui’s arrival is likely to signal the departure of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who is set to join West Ham United after a deal was agreed between the clubs.
Both De Ligt and Mazraoui played in front of United goalkeeper Andre Onana during their time at Ajax.
De Ligt joined Juventus in 2019 for £67.5m and after winning one Serie A title and one Coppa Italia in 117 appearances he joined Bayern in 2022 for £65.6m.
He has played 73 games for the German side and won the Bundesliga.
The signings are subject to medicals, but United fans will be excited to see the new additions to the team ahead of the new season.
