…Keeping Promise To President Bola Tinubu Administration.
Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company (IVM) has taken a significant leap in Nigeria’s automotive industry with the production of its first electric vehicles (EVs) and the timely delivery of the first batch of 100 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses ordered by the Federal Government. This achievement fulfills a pledge made by IVM’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chief Innocent Chukwuma, to President Bola Tinubu and Nigerians, as part of the government’s initiative to transition towards alternative energy sources for transportation.
Speaking on the development over the weekend, Chief Chukwuma expressed his satisfaction at the rapid progress.
“I had assured President Tinubu that Innoson would prioritize the manufacture and roll-out of electric vehicles, as well as fully-CNG-powered buses,” he stated.
He also confirmed that 25% of the CNG buses ordered by the government would be delivered to the Presidency this week, a mere month after the initial order.
During a recent test-drive of one of Innoson’s new electric vehicles, the auto industry mogul reaffirmed his company’s dedication to supporting the presidential initiative on sustainable energy solutions.
“We are proud to be pioneers in CNG vehicle manufacturing in Nigeria, and now, we are expanding our production to electric vehicles. This is a testament to our commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the Nigerian market,” Chief Chukwuma added.
The first batch of IVM CNG buses departed from Nnewi over the weekend, en route to Abuja for official delivery. In stark contrast to the delays from other auto manufacturers involved in the CNG initiative, Innoson’s prompt production and delivery have drawn attention, setting a new standard in the industry.
Chief Chukwuma’s ambitious plans for the future were echoed in a statement he made earlier this year, where he boldly declared: “I will shock you with what I am going to do with electric vehicles.” The recent introduction of the IVM electric cars underscores this promise, with the vehicles expected to hit the Nigerian market soon.
The news of Innoson’s electric vehicle production gained traction last week when the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Cornel Osigwe, shared a video of himself test-driving one of the new models. His social media post quickly went viral, sparking interest from eager buyers who flooded the company with inquiries.
Although the vehicles are still undergoing final quality checks, Chief Chukwuma hinted that some test units have already been handed over to select individuals for feedback.
One early owner, Chief Sunny Anajekwu, praised the IVM electric car as “the best vehicle I have ever driven.”
He noted that the vehicle has become a sensation, drawing crowds everywhere he drives it across Anambra State.
According to Chief Anajekwu, the car’s 350-kilometer range on a full charge makes it a practical choice for daily use. He is even preparing to test its long-distance capabilities with a trip from Anambra to Lagos, marking a new chapter for Nigeria’s electric vehicle market.
With the successful roll-out of both CNG and electric vehicles, Innoson is positioning itself as a leader in the transition to cleaner, more sustainable transportation options in Nigeria.
As Chief Chukwuma reaffirmed, “At Innoson, we have the capacity to produce CNG, hybrid, electric, and conventional fuel-powered vehicles, all built to meet the highest standards.”
The future of Nigeria’s automotive industry looks bright, with Innoson at the forefront of this innovative shift.
