Imo State Deputy Gov. Advocates For Increased Role Of Women In National Development

Her Excellency Lady Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru, PhD, the Deputy Governor of Imo State, has called for greater participation of women in national development, emphasizing their role as the stabilizing force within society. She highlighted the essential contributions women make to community advancement, family unity, and overall societal peace and progress.

The Deputy Governor delivered this message during a meeting with members of the Stand Up for Women Society, a non-governmental organization, held at the Government House. In her remarks, Lady Ekomaru underlined the unique qualities women bring to various leadership and societal roles, noting that their input is crucial for fostering peace, harmony, and nation-building initiatives. She encouraged women to confidently voice their concerns, assuring them that their voices would be heard.

The Deputy Governor also took the opportunity to express her gratitude to Governor Hope Uzodimma for empowering women across Imo State through appointments in his administration and other initiatives aimed at enhancing women’s roles in society.

Commending the Stand Up for Women Society for its efforts in educating women about their rights and responsibilities, the Deputy Governor urged the organization to extend its outreach to rural areas, where many women continue to face significant challenges.

In their respective addresses, Barr. Ngozi Njoku, the State Matron, and Barr. Abosede Adetona, the group’s founder, highlighted the organization’s global presence, which spans all 36 states of Nigeria, Abuja, and 27 countries, with more expansions underway. They reiterated the importance of amplifying women’s voices and extended an invitation to the Deputy Governor to attend their upcoming National Conference in Owerri.
