The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru has urged citizens of the state to forgive the governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Benard Odoh, for their actions against his victory at the polls.

The governor made the plea while addressing citizens of the state at the new government house, Abakaliki. He noted that Odii and Odoh did not know what they were doing.

Nwifuru, however, praised the Supreme Court of Nigeria for affirming his victory in the last 2023 general election that took place in the thirteen local government areas of the state.

The governor expressed gratitude to God for the judiciary’s bold stance in defending the wishes of Ebonyians through the ballots in the last election. He tendered apologies on behalf of Odii and Odoh who dragged him to court to challenge his victory in the election.

He said, “Sincerely, I tender an apology on behalf of them (Odii and Odoh) and ask for their forgiveness. We should forgive them because they don’t know what they were doing, and I’m sure we are going to forgive them. “The Supreme Court has served Ebonyians justice and I’m sincerely grateful to them. The image of this country has been redeemed by the Supreme Court of Nigeria. The landmark judgment given last Friday has redeemed the image of this country.”
