The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has donated medical consumables along with a variety of food items, valued at N180 million to alleviate the suffering of flood disaster victims in Borno State.
Moved by the tragic disaster that claimed lives and displaced numerous households, Governor Mutfwang extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, as well as to the government and people of Borno State.
Presenting the relief materials on behalf of Governor Mutfwang at the Borno State Government House, his Deputy, Mrs. Ngo Josephine Piyo, emphasized that Plateau State stands in solidarity with the people of Borno in their time of grief and hardship. She noted that the support demonstrated a shared sense of humanity and compassion during this difficult period.
Accompanied by revered traditional rulers, the clergy and senior government officials, the Plateau delegation presented several items to the victims including Medical consumables worth N20 million, Four trailers of Swan water, 100 bags of kulikuli, 100 bags of garri, 100 bags of gero (millet) and dawa (sorghum), 100 bags of maize and
20 cartons of powdered milk.
Others are 25 bags of sugar, 100 bags of beans, 50 bags of salt, 50 jerrycans of palm oil, 50 cartons of groundnut oil, 5,000 loaves of bread and accessories, 200 cartons of Nasco Champ biscuits and 50 cartons of liquid detergent also valued at N160 million.
The Deputy Governor, Hon. Piyo conveyed Governor Mutfwang’s message of sympathy: “The news of this tragic event reached Plateau State with deep concern. We are painfully aware of the widespread devastation caused by the floods, which have ravaged entire communities, displacing families and destroying homes, livelihoods, and critical infrastructure. The people of Borno are in dire need of humanitarian assistance, and our hearts go out to all who have been affected.”
Governor Mutfwang praised the swift response of both Governor Babagana Umara Zulum and the federal government in addressing the crisis. He urged philanthropists, organizations, and well-meaning individuals to contribute to the relief efforts, recognizing that the road to recovery requires collective action.
“As a token of our solidarity,” Mutfwang said, “the Plateau State government is providing these relief materials to support ongoing efforts. While we know these items cannot replace what has been lost, we hope they bring some comfort during this difficult time. We stand united with Borno State, and we pray that such disasters never occur again.”
Responding, Governor Zulum expressed deep gratitude to the government and people of Plateau State for their generous support. He acknowledged that this act of kindness would further strengthen the bond between Plateau and Borno States.
“Our administration remains committed to providing relief and improving the living conditions of our people,” Zulum said. “The solidarity shown by Governor Mutfwang and the people of Plateau reinforces the strong ties we share, and we are thankful for this intervention.”
