In a significant step towards grassroots engagement, Barrister Donald Chidi Amamgbo, Labour Party Senatorial Aspirant for Anambra South, conducted extensive consultative meetings with party stakeholders in Nnewi North and South constituencies.
The first engagement, held at Amichi Town Hall near Eke Amichi, brought together Labour Party members and 20 ward chairmen from Nnewi South. Hon Ezechukwu Nwankwo set the tone with his opening remarks, emphasising the opportunity to strengthen party structure with the rallying cry “Ka anyi dozi onodu” (Let’s set things right).
During his address, Barr Amamgbo shared his background, highlighting his parents’ influence as hardworking community members who inspired his venture into public service. “This is not about personal ambition,” Amamgbo stated, “but rather a genuine hunger for positive change in our senatorial zone.”
In a candid question-and-answer session, Amamgbo pledged his commitment to campaign promises, emphasising that his character would remain consistent regardless of electoral outcomes. He challenged constituents to demand accountability from career politicians and emphasised that structural change begins at the grassroots level.
Local stakeholders outlined their expectations, including:
- Adherence to Peter Obi’s “we no dey give shishi” principle, prioritising service delivery over vote-buying
- Equitable distribution of amenities across all seven zones of Anambra South
- Transparent communication channels
- Inclusion of Nnewi South representation in the campaign structure.
The subsequent meeting at Anyi Bu Ofu Social Club National Headquarters, Abubor Nnewichi, focused on Nnewi North constituents. Barr Okechukwu Unuegbu opened the session, highlighting concerns about governance inefficiencies.
Addressing the Nnewi North gathering, Amamgbo acknowledged the region’s reputation for industry and enterprise, pledging governance that would complement their entrepreneurial spirit. He shared insights from his experience as a policy consultant, demonstrating his understanding of governmental operations.
“Effective representation requires both integrity and a deep understanding of governance mechanisms,” Amamgbo emphasised. “My background in policy consultation has prepared me for this responsibility.”
The consultation tour was attended by key party figures including Hon Mrs Amaka Ofodeme, Mazi Paul Obu, Hon Ezechukwu Nwankwo, and other party stalwarts.
