Sharing is caring

Anambra First Lady, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has said that her Healthy Living Exhibition Garden was set up to play important purposes in the areas of education, renewed consciousness, and healthy living orientation.

Mrs Soludo stated this shortly after visiting her garden at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, where she picked up some crops that are already due for harvest.

The Healthy Living Exhibition Garden was set up a few weeks ago by the governor’s wife to riase awareness about the importance of owning household gardens, striving for self-sufficiency and driving passion for agriculture and changing many false narratives that certain crops do not thrive in this side of the country.

The garden boasts over ten varieties of crops, including cucumber, cabbage, ginger, tumeric, garlic, tomatoes, green pepper, okra, red pepper, curry, yam, among others.

Among the crops harvested by Mrs. Soludo were cucumbers, scent leaves, curry, and spinach.

Speaking in a short video note, Mrs. Soludo highlighted the importance of owning a garden in homes, pointing out that apart from beating the economic demands of foods, families can always eat right and healthy by having their own gardens

She encouraged households to tap into the huge benefits of organic gardening, stressing that the growing costs of foods are a result of complete dependence on the market and neglect of agriculture by today’s society.

Mrs Soludo equally stated that subsistence farming remained a sure way to boost food sufficiency in homes, which is one of the major aims of her ongoing free seeds distribution programme.

She also said that the successful growth of rare crops in the garden has proven that our soil is rich and can grow so many varieties of crops, including those that are wrongly believed not to thrive on local soil.
