Remember the Offa robbery attack of 2018? Five years after the incident, the suspects will now have their day in court
A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilọrin, the Kwara State capital, on Monday fixed August 2, 2024 for judgement in the bloody April 5, 2018 Offa robbery attack.
The development is coming after a protracted trial that had lasted over five years.
Presiding judge, Haleeman Salman, on Monday adopted the final written addresses which contained arguments of the two lead counsel in the matter.
Rotimi Jacob (SAN) represented the state while Barrister Mathias Emeribe stood for the defendants.
Recall that six suspects: a dismissed policeman, Michael Adikwu now dead, Ayoade Akinnibosun, Azeez Salahudeen, Niyi Ogundiran, Ibikunle Ogunleye and Adeola Abraham were arrested in connection with the bloody armed robbery incident.
Ayoade Akinnibosun and four others are standing trial in the case which began on November 11, 2018.
On April 5, 2018, some suspected armed robbers attacked five commercial banks in the ancient Offa town in the Offa local government area of Kwara State, killing over 30 persons in the process, including nine policemen.
The five suspects, Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibikunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham and two others were charged by the police with criminal conspiracy to rob the banks, murder of nine policemen and other citizens, and illegal possession of firearms.
Adikwu died in police custody while the remaining five pleaded not guilty.
