The Wife of the slain Chibueze Nwakor, Dorcas Nwakor, is demanding for justice for her husband who was killed by police officers
Chibueze Nwakor a 29-year-old a local businessman in Anambra State and a resident of Owerre Ezukala in the Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State was reportedly shot on October 13 by police officers affiliated with the Area Command in Onitsha.
The unfortunate incident occurred along Sokoto Road, close to the Main Market in Onitsha, while Chibueze was on his way to the market.
He was said to have died on his way to hospital for treatment by passers-by.
Dorcas Nwakor, stricken with grief, has taken a stand to demand justice for the unjust killing of her husband, sparking public outcry for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Chibueze’s tragic demise at the hands of the law enforcement officers.
The state police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident to journalists, said, “Investigation is still ongoing, please.”
However, while speaking to journalists in Onitsha, on Sunday, the wife of the deceased, Dorcas, who is currently five months pregnant, said the family is highly devastated by the news of her husband’s death.
She said, “On the evening of Friday, October 13, I got a call to come to the hospital that my husband was shot by the police in Onitsha and when I arrived at the hospital at 8 pm, they confirmed to me that he was dead.
“The killing of my husband has affected us so much and right now, i am in a critical condition with my pregnancy. I don’t know what to do, there is no help for me from anywhere. He was killed for no justifiable reasons and without any provocation. He was not a troublemaker.
“He was the breadwinner of the family and his sudden death has cost us so much at the moment. Look at my children, look at my condition. I am five months pregnant. Where will I run to now? Who will help me? My medication and my ante-natal care have been suspended because there is no money my children are no longer going to school.
“There is no food to eat, even my children have been hungry, all because of what the police have done to us. This is unjustifiable, we need people, kind-spirited individuals to come to our rescue at the moment. Our landlord called two days ago to inform us that our rent will soon be due. How do I cope, my husband was making plans to open a business for me before he was killed.”
While demanding justice over the killing of her husband, she called on President Bola Tinubu, the acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and other relevant agencies to help ensure the matter is not swept under the carpet.
“I want justice for my husband. His killers should tell us the reason they killed him. I am helpless now. I don’t have any father, my husband was everything that I have. The police IG should intervene, President Bola Tinubu should intervene, the Anambra State government should intervene,
