The National Labour Congress action declared by members of organised labour, which began on Tuesday, registered weak compliance in Anambra State”.
Ekwe Anaedo corrspondent, who visited some area in the state observed that educational institutions opened for lectures, just as banks and other public places shunned the strike”.
The strike also. registered substantial compliance in government ministries, agencies and parastatals.
For example, the Anambra State secretariat which houses most of the ministries in the state was totally shut down, and was also devoid of human presence”.
However, the state chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Mr Humphrey Nsofor told our Corrspondent in an interview that the strike registered 75 percent compliance, saying the union only had problems with banks”.
“I can say that we registered 75 percent compliance. The strike was a success. The only place we had issues was in banks, but on Wednesday, we are going to visit banks, and I’m sure they will comply”.
“Most of the public places that opened today will not open tomorrow, when we continue our awareness. The strike started just today,and you know that some people may not have heard of it. , So, most of the people who opened today, will not open tomorrow.” he conclued.
