A valedictory court session will be held on August 22, 2024, to mark the retirement of Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola (GCON).
The ceremony will take place at the Supreme Court, signaling the end of Ariwoola’s tenure as CJN.
Ariwoola was sworn in as CJN on October 12, 2022, after being appointed as acting CJN in June 2022, following the resignation of Justice Tanko Muhammad.
He has served as a Justice of the Supreme Court since 2011 and previously held positions at the Court of Appeal and the State High Court of Oyo State.
The Supreme Court’s 2023/2024 legal year ended on July 19, 2024, and the court is currently on vacation.
The new legal year, 2024/2025, will commence on September 23, 2024, with a ceremony scheduled for September 30, 2024.
Justice Ariwoola will turn 70 on August 22, 2024, marking the mandatory retirement age for judges in Nigeria.
