Val Ozigbo Honoured By Catholic Laity Council Of Nigeria

The Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria (CLCN), during its momentous 2023 national conference and golden jubilee celebration on Saturday, December 9, 2023, bestowed the prestigious Award of Excellence upon Valentine Ozigbo, a respected Nigerian business leader who is one of Nigeria’s most recognised philanthropists.

In a gala filled with high-profile individuals and marked by a spirit of celebration, Mr. Ozigbo was recognised for his substantial contributions to society and his inspiring role in mentoring the youth.

As an Onitsha provincial nominee, he expressed deep gratitude for the nomination and the honour of receiving the highest national honour from one of the Catholic Church’s most respected bodies in Nigeria.
“In his Application speech, thank the Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria for this tremendous honour. I am humbled and grateful for the grace of the Almighty God in my life. To Him, I ascribe all the glory for everything good in my life,” Ozigbo a 2021 Anambra Gubernatorial Candidate, said in response to the accolade.

“At this moment, I am reminded that true leadership is about service, unity, and uplifting others. This award is not just for me but for the ‘Obidient world’ and my family. Together, we are the architects of a future where unity and social upliftment are the cornerstones of our nation.

“Receiving this honour is a reminder that our collective efforts towards mentoring the youth and contributing to society do not go unnoticed. Let’s continue to inspire and be inspired,” he added.

He urged the laity to spearhead a social renaissance and conscientious development, emphasising the critical time for action to bridge ethnic divides and champion a Nigeria that serves all its citizens equitably.

The celebration, held at Public Service Institution of Nigeria, Dutse, Abuja, also recognised other top awardees from Nigeria, including Sen Victor Umeh, Ide Peter Anazodo, Ichie Sunday E.O Ezeobiora, Rt Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Mr Emmanuel Nwankweagu, Dr Joseph Ikem Odumodu, and Chief Cyril Onuora.

Other distinguished figures graced the occasion, notably the Chairman of the occasion Brig Gen Dr. Chijioke Ugwuoke, the Obong of Calabar His Eminence Okon Abasi Otu, and other notables like Prof Tony Iredia, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi, and Prof Maurice Iwu.

The Director of Pastoral Agents, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Rev Augustine Okochi, lauded the CLCN for its substantial impact on the Church and society. He delivered a resonant call to action for the laity to reaffirm their dedication, enhance their unity, and deepen their spiritual commitment. Rev Okochi’s address highlighted the importance of embracing modern methods, including digital engagement, to further the council’s mission and the Church’s outreach in an era of rapid change and environmental consciousness.

Mr. Ozigbo’s recognition by the CLCN stands as a beacon of hope and a call to action for leaders and laity alike to commit to creating a more inclusive, dynamic, and spiritually enriched society.
