Uzodimma Urges Gunmen To Embrace Peace At Funeral Of Former APC Woman Leader

Sharing is caring

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has made an impassioned appeal to unidentified gunmen hiding in the state’s forests to surrender their weapons and rejoin society. He assured them of the government’s willingness to support their reintegration by providing assistance to start businesses and live meaningful lives.

The Governor made this plea during the burial ceremony of the late Jenny Rachael Okonkwo, a former APC Woman Leader for the Orlu zone, who was brutally murdered in 2022 by suspected criminals who left her body in a bush.

Speaking at the late leader’s country home in Ogberuru, Orlu Local Government Area, Governor Uzodinma condemned the heinous crime and described Okonkwo’s death as a significant loss to both the APC and Imo State. He labeled her a committed party member, a skilled mobilizer, and an exemplary leader whose only “offense” was her dedication to the party.

While praying for the repose of her soul and those of the four other women killed alongside her, the Governor announced financial compensation of ₦10 million for each of the deceased families. Additionally, he promised employment opportunities for employable children of the victims or skill acquisition training for those willing to learn.

Governor Uzodinma decried the involvement of external forces recruited by unscrupulous politicians to perpetuate violence in Orlu. He noted that the ongoing killings are orchestrated by those who prioritize political gain over human lives but assured the public that justice would prevail.

“These assassins were not targeting Rachael because of any wrongdoing. She was killed for her dedication to the APC, her outstanding contributions as a leader, and her ability to mobilize effectively,” the Governor stated.

Uzodinma also cautioned perpetrators of violence, emphasizing that divine judgment awaits those who shed innocent blood for political power. He encouraged the people of Orlu and the APC faithful to remain steadfast, urging them to stay united despite the challenges.

The Governor extended his condolences to the bereaved families and the APC community, particularly members of Camp Hope, recognizing their efforts in keeping the party unified. He assured party members that their loyalty and resilience would not go unrewarded.

Concluding, Governor Uzodinma reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to combating insecurity, promoting peace, and fostering a sense of justice across the state.
