Defending champion Coco Gauff is through to the second round of the US Open as she begins her title defence.
Gauff only dropped two games as she beat French player Varvara Gracheva 6-2 6-0
After reaching the semi-finals of the French Open in June, third seed Gauff has struggled and had early exits in Toronto and Cincinnati this month during the build-up to the US Open.
Gauff broke Gracheva in the third game and made it a double break to go 5-2 up as she began to find her rhythm.
The American dominated the second set winning it without dropping a game to progress to the next round
Meanwhile, Britain’s Harriet Dart made it through to the second round after an impressive victory against Chloe Paquet of France.
The 26-year-old dropped just two games in a dominant performance which saw her win 6-1 6-2 and victory will see her ranking rise to a provisional career high of 66 in the world.
Dart, who is being coached by her mother Susie in New York, was in control from the start to finish.
She will have her work cut out to repeat her Wimbledon feat with Ukrainian 19th seed Marta Kostyuk awaiting her on Wednesday.
