The Much anticipated Heavyweight title fight between WBA, WBO and IBF Champion Ukrainian, Oleksandr Usyk, and WBC title holder, Tyson Fury will not take place on December 23 as initially planned.
Oleksandr Usyk who admitted that he was ready to fight Fury in December, is hoping that the title fight which is scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia, is allowed to happen in February.
In October, Fury emerged victorious in a split decision over UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou but the British fighter left the bout with bruises on his face that need time to heal.
Usyk, the WBA, WBO, and IBF, champion was present in the Riyadh arena when Fury was declared the winner of the bout. The two then squared off in the ring to affirm their rivalry.
Usyk said he would “very much like” his fight with Fury to take place in February.
“I was ready to fight on the 23rd but since Fury got some injuries in the last fight, a knockdown, then probably it will be postponed to next year,” he said.
A new date for the fight between Usyk and Fury is expected to be announced as early as next week.
Before they agreed on the fight in September 2023, they were in negotiations for about a year.
The eagerly anticipated bout would determine who would become the first four-belt champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999.
