Tricycle Association Chairman Arrested for Assaulting Police Officer in Lagos

The chairman of the Ikeja Tricycle Riders Association, Oladimeji Ahmed, 48, has been arrested and is currently in police custody following a violent altercation with a police officer in Ikeja, Lagos.

According to the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, Ahmed assaulted an Inspector of Police who attempted to impound a motorcycle and arrest the rider for obstructing traffic on Friday, August 9, 2024.

Hundeyin shared a video of the altercation on X.con and stated that an investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Retweeting the video of the altercation, Hundeyin wrote, “Oladimeji Ahmed, aged 48, Ikeja Chairman of Tricycle Riders Association, has been arrested for serious assault on a police officer.

“Ahmed assaulted an Inspector of Police who attempted to impound a motorcycle and arrest the rider for flagrantly obstructing traffic in Ikeja at about 1800hrs on Friday, August 9, 2024.”

This incident comes after a similar case in January where a 39-year-old man, Akinyemi Akintayo, was arrested and arraigned for assaulting police officers.

The police command has taken swift action in this case, and it remains to be seen how the investigation will unfold.
