A devastating building collapse occurred at Arowojobe Estate in the Maryland area of Lagos State, resulting in the deaths of three site workers.
The incident happened at No 13, Wilson Mba Street, where a set of three terraces under construction crumbled.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the tragedy, stating that they received a distress call at 3:49 am and promptly activated their response team. Upon arrival, they discovered the collapsed building and began search and rescue operations.
Three adult males were recovered dead, while two were rescued alive and one was trapped under the rubble.
All six men were site workers, and the rescued ones are receiving pre-hospital care. The remains of the three fatalities have been handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit.
A combined team of LASEMA personnel, the Lagos State Fire Service, and the Nigeria Police are working together at the scene, with LASEMA’s excavator deployed to accelerate search and rescue operations.
