Traditional Rulers Urged To Remain Neutral In Politics

Sharing is caring

A concerned citizen has called on traditional rulers to maintain their neutrality in the face of growing political tensions in the country.

In an open letter to the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, the citizen expressed concern over the involvement of traditional rulers in the politics of President Bola Tinubu.

The letter questioned whether President Tinubu consulted with traditional rulers before making decisions that have impoverished the people, such as removing the fuel subsidy. It also wondered why he has remained silent on insecurity and why traditional rulers have not demanded answers.

The citizen urged the Oba of Benin to remain neutral and not be swayed by the antics of President Tinubu, citing his administration’s excellent handling of Edo state politics as an example to be replicated at the federal level.

Additionally, the letter suggested that traditional rulers present a bill to the national assembly to remove the power of state governors to hire and fire traditional rulers, preventing state governors from insulting the monarchy.

The letter also called on Oba Akiolu of Lagos to apologize for his statements during the 2015 elections, which have contributed to tribal bigotry in Lagos state politics.

The citizen’s letter has sparked a heated debate on the role of traditional rulers in politics, with many calling for their neutrality in the face of growing political tensions.
