Tinubu Nominates Ganduje for Ambassadorial Role Amid Corruption Trial

President Bola Tinubu has recommended Abdullahi Ganduje, the current national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for an ambassadorial position, despite Ganduje’s ongoing corruption trial.

Ganduje, who faces charges totaling over N50 billion, has expressed dissatisfaction with the offer, claiming the charges against him are unfounded.

The nomination has raised concerns about Ganduje’s suitability for a diplomatic role, given the bribery scandal surrounding him.

Sources suggest that President Tinubu prefers Ganduje to be posted to Chad, where he previously served as the executive secretary of the Lake Chad Basin Commission.

Ganduje is reportedly lobbying to retain his current position as APC chairman and is seeking support from key political figures.

The development comes as the APC prepares for its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and mid-term non-elective national convention, scheduled for September 8-19, 2024.
