The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo says his administration is poised to stamp out any obnoxious practices against widows in communities across the state.
Prof. Soludo who stated this during the commissioning of the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation’s Touch-A-Life Housing Project, Phase 3 at Radio House, Oraifitte in Ekwusigo Local Government Area, noted that the state has made laws to protect the rights of widows and stressed that all the laws must be enforced to ensure dignity of widows and thanked Sir Emeka Offor and wife, Dr. Adaora for living out the true essence of humanity.
In an address, the President of Touch-A-Life-Housing Project and Vice Chairman of Sir Emeka Offor Foundation, SEOF, Dr. Adaora Offor said that the Touch-A-Life Housing Project was birthed four years ago to give shelter to widows who do not have any and explained that a total of ten houses, that is a well furnished two bedroom apartment was built for ten widows.
Dr. Offor who lamented the ill treatment meted on widows just because they lost their husbands, called on the government at all levels to make laws that will protect widows as they deserve respect, dignity, and safety and thanked individuals supporting the initiative.
The Founder Of SEOF, Sir Emeka who welcomed all the guests at the occasion, promised that the Foundation will continue to support the Touch-A-Life Housing Project as they go into the fourth stage.
Some of the beneficiaries, Mrs Amaka Nwodika, Juliana Akanna, and Ogochukwu Ibekwe who were obviously overwhelmed with joy, poured prayers on their benefactors.
Present during the house commissioning were, the wife of Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Mrs Karimatu Mohammed Ali Pate, Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon.Somto Udeze, Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Ify Obinabo, among others.
