The Tech-4-All In partnership With Institute Of Electrical Electronic Engineers (IEEE) has empowered no fewer than 25 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), in Anambra State with laptops to enable them to excel professionally.
This epoch making event was held on June 14 at the MCITU software house UNIZIK, Awka at the closing/award giving ceremony of a five week digital Tech-4-all training specially designed for persons with disabilities.
The Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof Joseph Ikechebelu in his opening remark, commended the IEEE and Tech4all for this outstanding training.
He assured that his office is ever ready to support digital knowledge in all round, assuring persons with the disabilities especially students that his administration will be an inclusive one.
The Director, Centre for Disability and Special Needs Research (CENDASNER), UNIZIK, Prof Williams Obiozor in his keynote address enumerated some challenges posed to persons with PWDs such as accessibility, limitations to institutional, technological context and lack of self confidence.
He, then, profer some possible remedy to overcome this challenges which include, attending workshops, enrolling in training, offline and online as well as having great confidence in themselves as there is ability in disability.
He further advised the general public to stay positive and compassionate in dealing with persons with disabilities as was showcased by Tech-4 -all training.
Dr Zuby Aniedu, Director MICTU, UNIZIK as well as Chairman IEEE Southeast Zone, in his own address commended the various sponsors of the program and charged the participants to use the knowledge and skills they have acquired so far in the training to attain another height of self and professional growth.
He further assured the participants of their unwavering support and encouraged them to always seek their help when necessary as they journey to the digital world.
Mr Ugochukwu Ernest Okeke, Chairman Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD), Anambra State chapter, commended the organisers of the training, for their impactfulness on the PWDs through the digital training.
He, then, enjoined the beneficiaries to channel their knowledge positively especially in improving their source of livelihood through it.
One of the participants, Mr Ifeanyi Igwegbe, while thanking the organisers for availing this great opportunity to persons with disabilities, testified that he has started utilising some skills learnt already.
Highlight of the event are the awarding the best participants with certificates and laptops and group pictures.
