The Challenge Initiative (TCI) and Devcom Network State Manager, Dr. Bello Abubakar Kilgori, congratulated the media team for their outstanding performance in promoting family planning methods in Sokoto State.
The team’s efforts increased the number of people seeking family planning adoption and contraceptive services, making Sokoto the top-performing state among the ten states working on child spacing in Nigeria.
A family planning media roundtable review meeting was organized by TCI to review last year’s achievements and plan for 2025.
Kilgori attributed Sokoto’s success to the effective collaboration between the TCI team, the media, and other stakeholders.
He emphasized the importance of strategic planning, coordination, and the team’s ability to project their activities as a formidable team.
Kilgori also highlighted the significance of the team’s experience in promoting polio awareness, which has been invaluable in their family planning efforts.
The state manager said TCI will focus on strategic interventions based on critical activities, including capacity building, awareness creation, and supporting special investigation reports to enlighten the public on the need to accept family planning messages.
Other activities will include engaging policymakers, politicians, social media users, and stakeholders, as well as media forum review meetings.
Additionally, Kilgori announced that TCI has allocated slots for investigative stories and will encourage special reports on topics such as funding, commodity access, and misconceptions about family planning.
The TCI State Manager expressed appreciation for the team’s efforts and announced that TCI will close its operations in Sokoto State in August, with a terminal closing in September.
Musa Ubandawaki, the media coordinator of the project, noted that the meeting aimed to showcase achievements, review challenges, and provide ways to enhance progress.
Abdullahi Elkurebe, a member of the CTI and publisher of Ashnews, emphasized the importance of media convergence journalism.
He urged the media team to identify real voices and success stories, which can be amplified through collaboration with caregivers and community organizations.
This approach can help persuade individuals who are indecisive about accepting family planning services.
