Kogi State Police Command has given the spokesperson for SDP Governorship Campaign Council Farouk Adejoh-Audu 24 hours to substantiate his allegations against the command and CP Bethrand Onuoha or risk arrest.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William Aya, who disclosed this on Thursday in a statement, said the recent allegation from Adejoh-Audu against the police command and CP Onuoha over the youth protest at INEC headquarters, Lokoja remains a direct affront on the integrity and authority of the Nigerian Police Force.
“We might have no option than to invoke our operational processes to hold him to account for his reckless and unsubstantiated claims.
“The state Police Command doesn’t belong to any political party. Our responsibility is to protect lives and property, a mandate we have protected without fear or favour”, the statement read.
It would be recalled that the SDP spokesperson on Wednesday charged the state CP for alleged unprofessional conduct in his handling of the issues at INEC office, Lokoja.
On Friday armed gunmen stormed the residence of the state Resident Electoral Commissioner but were repelled by security operatives attached to the REC’s house.
Following the incident, APC and SDP have been pointing accusing fingers at each other.
The police has since launched an investigation into the attack to unravel the cause and those behind it.
