A new film, ‘Saipan’, is in the works, telling the story of the infamous feud between Captain Roy Keane and Mick McCarthy, the former Republic of Ireland manager, during the 2002 World Cup.
Steve Coogan, known for his role as Alan Partridge, will play McCarthy, while Eanna Hardwicke will portray Keane.
The film, set to begin production soon, will explore the events leading up to Keane’s departure from the Ireland camp before the tournament.
The incident occurred after Keane criticized the team’s preparation and facilities in an interview, leading to a public falling out with McCarthy.
‘Saipan’ is slated for release in summer 2025 and promises to give audiences a firsthand look at the infamous feud that made headlines in 2002.
