Tottenham ended their recent slump in emphatic style as they convincingly overpowered Newcastle United 4-1
Spurs had lost four of their previous five games and had not won since the victory at Crystal Palace on 27 October, against a Newcastle team in the need of a magic having lost surprisingly to Everton 3-0 in their last match.
The point’s difference between both teams on the table before the game was not much, just one point to Spurs advantage
Spurs have been stuttering recently after an outstanding start under Postecoglou, not helped by a succession of injuries, particularly to key new signings James Maddison and Micky van de Ven, but the battling draw at Manchester City demonstrated the new-found spirit and here the attacking quality was back.
The manner in which Spurs were able to over-run Newcastle as they capitulated posted warning signs for Howe.
Goals by Udogie, Son and two from Richarlison was a true reflection of their dominance and by the time Newcastle got their late consolation, the game has already been won and lost.
The win helps them consolidate on fifth position three points ahead of wobbling Manchester United and three behind defending champions Manchester City who are fourth.
