It was a moment of reminiscence as Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, on Wednesday, returned to his secondary school roots as Uga Boys’ Secondary School (UBSS), Uga, in Aguata Local Government Area, marked its 50th anniversary.
In a moment that stirred nostalgia and excitement, the Governor donned his old-style secondary school uniform, reliving fond memories of his formative years while joining staff, students, alumni and guests to celebrate the school’s golden jubilee.
The symbolic appearance of Governor Soludo in school uniform drew cheers and admiration, as it showcasing his personal connection to the institution and his strong belief in the education as a foundation for societal transformation.
Uga Boys’ Secondary School, which has produced notable professionals and leaders over the past five decades, now stands as one of the public secondary schools being transformed into a smart school under the Soludo administration’s education reform agenda.
Speaking through his actions and presence, the Governor highlighted the importance of investing in education, not only as a policy priority but as a personal mission shaped by his own background and experiences within the public school system.
The transformation of UBSS into a smart school forms part of the wider Anambra State education revolution, which includes the deployment of digital learning tools, improved infrastructure, teacher upgrading and the repositioning of public schools to compete globally.
This reporter, Izunna Okafor, gathered that the golden jubilee celebration provided an opportunity for old students to reconnect, reflect on the school’s journey over the last 50 years, and recommit themselves to supporting its continued growth and development.
Reports also have it that the governor’s return to his alma mater in uniform symbolised a bridge between the past, present and future of learning in the state. The celebration was widely described as a proud moment for the Uga community, alumni of the school and Ndi Anambra at large, as the institution clocks half a century of impact, resilience and excellence.
