Senator Nwebonyi Sponsors Raw Materials Processing Protection Bill, 2024, Seconds Bill For Establishment Of Special College Of Education For People With Disability

The Senate Deputy Chief Whip and Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi has sponsored another people oriented Bill for the establishment of the Raw Materials Processing and Local Production Protection Bill, 2024 and as well supported the Bill seeking to establish the Federal College of Education, Special, Kano State to cater for the educational needs of people living with disability. Another Bill for the establishment of the Federal University of Education, Special, Oyo state was sponsored by Senator Akintude Yunusa Abiodun.

Leading the debate on the Raw Materials Processing and Local Production Protection Bill, 2024, Senator Nwebonyi explained that the Bill if passed will enhance optimal exploration of raw materials in Nigeria as well as protecting the local industries from foreign suppression. He further noted that it would forestall the ugly incidence of capital flights and brain drain being witnessed in the country today.

The Bill seeking to establish the Federal College of Education-Special, Kano state was presented by Senator Suleiman Abdurahman Kawu. He argued that the national policy on Education clearly stated that education is the fundamental human right of every citizen irrespective of tribe, religion, social status or any specific personal challenges.

He insisted that the university when established will cater for the holistic education of people with special disability noting that they too are part of the earth.

He lamented the exclusion of some people with special needs despite the fact that there’s ability in disability and therefore called on his colleagues to support the passage of the all-important Bill.

While seconding the Bill for the establishment of the Federal College of Education-Special, Kano state, Senator Nwebonyi highlighted some of its importance to include addressing the agitations of discrimination from people with disability stressing the need to accommodate their academic interests like every other Nigerians. He maintained that some of them are extremely intelligent despite their peculiar physical challenges.

He therefore called on other Senators to support the Bill considering its importance.

Other Senators who supported the Bill including the Deputy Senate President-Barau Jibrin, Senator Àdams Oshomole and Senator Victor Umeh commended the sponsor for his foresight noting that the Nigerian Paralympic team had won gold trophy for the country despite their challenges which is an indication that there’s ability in disability.
