The Senate Deputy Chief Whip and Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial district – Distinguished Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi has praised the political will of the Executive Governor of Ebonyi state – Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru in implimenting the recently signed new National minimum wage and the Supreme Court’s judgement on Financial autonomy of the local government.
Senator Nwebonyi gave the commendation during the Grand Finale of the Izhi Nnodo Ojiji New Yam Festival held at Anmegu, the ancestral home of Izhi Nnodo Ekumenyi on August 31, 2024. The astute Parliamentarian expressed deep satisfaction with Governor Nwifuru’s people-oriented policies and programmes describing him as the most performing governor of Ebonyi state. He insisted that Governor Nwifuru has recorded many firsts just within one and half years in office. According to him:
“I’m very proud of my elder brother and Executive Governor of Ebonyi state- His Excellency, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru because he has proven that an archetypal Izzi man is known for industry, compassion and hospitality. He has scored many resounding firsts in Infrastructural, human capital and all-round developments.
Notably, he is the first Governor in the whole of South East to approve the payment of the new national minimum wage, implement the local government financial autonomy and empower 1300 youths across the 13 council areas with N1m each. This is unprecedented and must be appreciated by all well-meaning Ebonyians.”
Senator Nwebonyi who is often described by his admirers as the golden voice of the 10th Senate due to his invaluable contributions to national discourse, sponsoring of bills and moving people-oriented motions at the Red Chambers equally congratulated the newly sworn in Council Chairmen while charging them to work assiduously to justify the confidence reposed in them by the electorates. In his words:
“Let me sincerely congratulate the brand new Chairmen of our 13 council areas especially those from my constituency – Ebonyi North Senatorial zone for their overwhelming victories at the polls. This is an indication of their wide acceptance by the people. I therefore encourage them to complement the noble efforts of our dear Governor in bringing development to the grassroots.
The vibrant Senator Nwebonyi who doubles as the Vice Chairman ECOWAS Parliament’s Standing Committee on Education, Science and Culture passed a vote of confidence on the governor of Ebonyi state and endorsed him for second tenure noting that he has no competitor in Ebonyi White House come 2027.
