The Enugu State Security Council has issued a strong warning to those planning to enforce a sit-at-home order in the state asking them to desist or be ready to face the consequences.
The council, led by Governor Peter Mbah, declared that sit-at-home orders are illegal and have no place in Enugu State.
The warning comes in response to a threat by Simon Ekpa, leader of the Autopilot militia group, who called for a one-week sit-at-home.
According to Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu, the Security Council has taken strategic decisions to strengthen the state’s security architecture and ensure the safety of all residents. “We guarantee the good people of Enugu State their security and the right to go about their lawful businesses without fear,” he said.
The council warned that any attempts to disrupt the peace or enforce a sit-at-home order would be met with swift and decisive action. “Our security forces are ready to crush any criminal element that dares to test our resolve,” Uzuegbu emphasized.
Governor Mbah had earlier urged residents to disregard threats from Ekpa, describing him as a “businessman, scammer, and common criminal” who exploits the emotions and sufferings of the people.
The governor assured that his administration is committed to protecting lives and property, and has demonstrated its capacity to do so.
