Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State emphasized the need to revamp the nation’s education policy to focus on producing graduates who are equipped for the job market. Speaking at the 67th National Council on Education meeting in Lagos, the governor urged stakeholders in the education sector to collaborate in order to foster self-reliance among the youth.
In his address, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, represented Governor Sanwo-Olu and highlighted the importance of aligning education with the demands of the labor market. He stated, “We must reposition our education policy by implementing strategies that will produce graduates who can seamlessly integrate into the workforce.”
The theme of the NCE meeting, “Addressing the challenges of policy implementation: A panacea for the achievement of Education 2030 Agenda,” provides an opportunity for stakeholders to work together to enhance the quality of education. By developing innovative educational models and finding sustainable solutions, the education sector can overcome the challenges of policy formulation.
Earlier, Mr. Andrew Adejo, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, emphasized the need to build a strong foundation for lifelong learning and utilize education as a catalyst for national development. He stressed that timely implementation of policies is crucial to avoid setbacks such as underdevelopment, unemployment, poverty, and insecurity.
To tackle the challenges of policy implementation, collaboration and collective effort are essential. All stakeholders must come together to ensure that education plays a pivotal role in shaping a prosperous future for Nigeria.
By empowering graduates with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed, Lagos State aims to create a generation of self-reliant individuals ready to contribute to the nation’s progress.
