The Rivers State House of Assembly held a public hearing on the Transport Authority Reform Bill 2024 with stakeholders ranging from civil society organisations, key transportation sector players, the media and the general public in attendance.
The public hearing which took place at the auditorium of the Rivers State Ministry of Women Affairs, Port Harcourt was superintended by an adhoc committee presided by the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Orubienimigha Adolphus Timothy who is the sponsors of the Bill, with the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Victor Oko Jumbo in attendance.
The day’s proceedings featured diverse contribution from the various stakeholders in attendance which was moderated by the sponsor of the Bill, who remarked that the general inputs would be helpful for the fine tuning of the Bill before its final adoption.
In his contribution, the Speaker acknowledged the aptness of the bill in view of the various concerns arising from the transportation sector, adding that a more formidable transportation authority is imminent in the state when the bill becomes law.
Mr Speaker who noted the active participation and contributions of the stakeholders in attendance, pledged to support the actualisation of the bill for the good of Rivers State.
